These two platforms dominate the CRM market but serve very different buyers. After evaluating both for 200+ companies, here’s what actually matters.

Every year we evaluate the CRM landscape, and every year the Salesforce vs. HubSpot question dominates the conversation. The honest answer has become more nuanced as HubSpot has grown upmarket.

HubSpot wins for: teams under 200 people, companies that want marketing and CRM in one platform, organizations prioritizing ease of use, and businesses that need to get operational within weeks rather than months. The free CRM is genuinely useful — not just a bait for upgrades.

Salesforce wins for: enterprise companies with complex custom requirements, organizations needing deep integration with legacy systems, teams that want a massive third-party app ecosystem, and businesses where the CRM is mission-critical infrastructure that needs to flex to their exact process.

The price gap is real: a 50-person sales team pays roughly $27,000/year for HubSpot Sales Hub Professional versus $80,000+ for Salesforce Sales Cloud Enterprise with comparable configuration.

The implementation gap is also real: HubSpot teams are typically operational in 4-6 weeks. Salesforce implementations commonly run 3-9 months and require specialized admins.

The question we ask every company: Is your sales process unique enough to require custom objects, complex approval rules, and industry-specific workflows? If yes, evaluate Salesforce. If your process looks like most sales processes, HubSpot will cover it and save you significant money and complexity.

For companies who have outgrown HubSpot CRM but aren’t ready for Salesforce, the middle ground — HubSpot Enterprise or Pipedrive — is worth evaluating.
